WESTS CYCLE CLASSIC

More than 40 riders and 10 support people set out on the 11th annual Wests Cycle Classic in March.

Since it began, riders of the Wests Cycle Classic have pedalled more than 7,000 kilometres through some of New South Wales’ toughest terrain just so they an raise funds for the Rescue Helicopter. The Group handed over $70,000 this year making its contribution more than $570,000 since 1995

This year the 650 kilometre ride began at the Broadmeadow base with the Newcastle contingent boarding a bus to meet their fellow riders at Nambucca Heads where it pedalled its way through the Mid North Coast and Hunter returning to the helicopter base eight days later.

At the presentation event in May, Service Chairman, Cliff Marsh, said that the Wests Cycle Classic was an excellent example of a successful relationship between the Service, business and the community. “Since its inception, the Wests Cycle Classic has been well supported by many valued sponsors and individuals”, he said. This incredible amount of money has been made possible due to the generosity of event sponsor Wests, and long-term partners of the Service; Retravision, TESA Group, Martins Stockhaulage and PWCS, as well as more than 40 businesses throughout the region that provide accommodation and hospitality, ride supplies and support services, donations and prizes.

Planning is well under way for a new and exciting Cycle Classic through the Central Coast and surrounds from Saturday 24 February to Saturday 3 March 2007.
